Neighborhood Strengthening Resources

Block Club Information -- strength and cohesiveness, where neighbors are familiar and communicate with each other frequently and effectively, is among the most effective of crime-deterrents of neighborhoods.  Forming a block club can go a long way toward establishing and maintaining that sense of community.

National Night Out (NNO) is an annual event promoting neighborhood cohesiveness and socializing as a crime prevention strategy that doubles as pure fun.

Paint the Pavement and Boulevard Gardening -- neighborhood greening and community beautification have been shown to have a meaningful effect in reducing crime and blight.  We are currently seeking candidate sites (and volunteers) for a "Paint the Pavement" project in District 6!

The little things count!  If you're casting about for ideas for community-building in your neighborhood, even at the simplest of levels, the Saguaro Seminar's 150 Ways to Build Social Capital can be a useful idea-jogger to start with.
